Brother Urbano Vazquéz gives us the following about Encuentro Catolico:

The mission of Encuentro Catolico is to promote the love of God through works of charity and evangelization with massive events, and through this be supportive with those marginalize, by bringing a risen Christ to their needs “what ever you did for one of these least brother of mine, you did for me.” (Mt. 25:35-40)

Its desire is to attract the young people to the church, so that they participate more in it and at the same time to foment in them vocations to the religious or consecrated life.

In order to accomplish this mission they use massive means like the events already made: I, II, III and the recently IV Encuentro Catolico in the DC Armory in Washington, D.C. with worldwide known speakers and singers.  The objective of these events is to use new methods of evangelization and technology of the world for the glory of God, and thus to recover the missionary spirit.  As fruits of such events they have done three missions to foreign countries such us El Salvador (I EC), Panama (II EC), Honduras (III EC) and soon to come Guatemala (IV EC).  Such countries are raffle without any particular preference during the event.

These Encounters are supported by St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Falls Church, VA however; it has become such a large event that it’s considered a regional event, the largest Catholic Hispanic Charismatic event in the tri-state area.

You can find more information (in Spanish) and pictures about mission in the following pages: http://www.stanthonyparish.org/evangelize/encuentro.htm

And recently the Washington Post had an article about the movement.
