Capuchin Friar William Fey Ordained Bishop
Rich with the rituals of the Roman Catholic Church and the traditions of the local people, Father William Fey was ordained bishop of West New Britain in Papua New Guinea on Saturday, 09 October 2010. In addition to the metropolitan archbishop and apostolic nuncio, another Capuchin friar, Bishop Stephen Reichert of Mendi was a co-consecrator of the new bishop.
Fourteen Capuchin Novices Invested
Men from five provinces, including seven novices of the Province of St. Augustine began the novitiate as they were invested with the habit. This year of intense prayer and study, along with the demands of fraternal life and manual labor, will culminate in the profession of first vows.
Brother Brian Stacy Makes First Vows
This Ohio native professed his first vows as a Capuchin friar. Having completed his year of novitiate, Brother Brian is now stationed at Capuchin College in Washington, DC, to complete his philosophy studies, begin theological studies and continue his formation as a Capuchin friar. He joins fourteen other young friars in post-novitiate formation. He is just of of almost 40 men in training to be Capuchins.
Four Men Accepted into Postulancy
The Provincial Minister, Father David Nestler accepted four men into Capuchin postulancy and entrusted them and their formation to Father Paul Kuppe and Brother Kip Ledger. The house of postulancy is in west Philadelphia, Padre Pio Friary.
Chapter Elects New Provincial
Friars of the Province of St. Augustine elected a new Provincial Minister: Fr. David Nestler. The friars assembled for the triennial chapter in June 2010. The five day gathering also saw the election of a new Definitory (council) and decisions about the future direction of the Province.
