Meet the Novices for 2016-17

2016 08 Caperone       The wait is over. Meet the Novices in this first edition of the 2016-17 Caperone . It's the monthly newsletter from the NAPCC (North American/Pacific Capuchin Conference) in Santa Ynez, CA.

Our own new brother Edgar Pereira seems to be well, and the new editors, Vince Carrasco (St. Conrad Province) and Joe Babcock (St. Joseph Province) obviously know a little about desktop publishing: the issue is chock-full of photos.

The Novices' Lent

Caperone2       The week of March 13-19 sees the novices of our inter-provincial Novitiate program on a silent Discernment retreat as the months fly buy toward their profession of vows in July.  Before they were off for their time in the Lord's refreshment, the editors of their monthly newsletter put the latest edition of The Caperone online.  It covers the funeral of a beloved brother from our California Province, Mike Walsh, OFM Cap., whose heroic battle with cancer is chronicled.  The highlight of their month, however, was their presence at the Los Angeles Archdiocesan Religious Education Conference in February. our brother Bob Barbato, OFM Cap., Assistant Director, writes:

As you will read in this edition, the novices and formation team spent three exciting, beautiful and tiring days at the Los Angeles Archdiocese Religious Education Congress in Anaheim, CA, Each year this trip is a highlight, a time to be reaffirmed in our own faith and reassured about the life of the Church. It is a time to pray together, to hear powerful speakers, and to meet other Catholics from all over the world.

News from the Novices: April 2016

CaperoneCover2       This month has been a busy one. We began the month in preparation for the Holy Triduum and ended the month with just the same. After a few classes on the aspects of the Triduum itself, we went right into planning; because of our upcoming silent retreat, we would have very little time before Holy Week would be upon us.

There was a lot of excitement (and some dread) about the silent retreat in the days preceding it. We knew that it would be a time to really go with the Lord in prayer and seek His will, not necessarily knowing what exactly He might say to us.

Leaving their Hearts in San Francisco

HerrickFrom the latest edition of the Novitiate's Caperone:

This month’s dominating feature at the Novitiate was definitely the four day pilgrimage to San Francisco, but January was unique in another way as well: it was a month of birthdays.

We celebrated the birthdays of novice brothers Vince, Steve, Christopher, and Rigo, and our beloved Br. Lance. We also celebrated the birthday of Fr. Alejandro. That was truly a special day. Alejandro has been a great example to us these past six months. His determination to get up each morning to concelebrate the Mass every day without fail is an inspiring model of his Capuchin fortitude and an unceasing dedication to live out his priestly vocation on a daily basis. We have no excuse to grumble out of bed in the morning when Fr. Alejandro, with his physical difficulties, makes it every day for Mass, eager to participate in yet another liturgy . . .
