Lifestyle

The Cap Corps is a Franciscan-centered program offering young men and women an opportunity to work in direct service with the poor while living a simple lifestyle in community with other volunteers. Community living includes prayer, meals together, recreation, and sharing in household chores. A significant amount of our charism is instilled by the presence of and interaction with the Capuchin Franciscan friars of the Province of Saint Augustine. The spirit and spirituality of St. Francis of Assisi are central to this experience.

A simple lifestyle means that you live on a small stipend each month provided for your personal expenses without depending on outside resources. You will also receive payment for transportation to and from your ministry placement each day. The program does not provide transportation to your site city, but it does pay for your return at the end of your service year. You can travel home for the holidays and for family gatherings at the expense of your family. Your room and board are also provided, plus an HMO health plan that has low co-payments for doctors and prescriptions.

We are a multi-placement program, and you are given the opportunity to interview with the placements in which you are interested. We try to place you in the city in which you desire to live while serving as a Cap Corps volunteer. The Cap Corps experience offers the opportunity for you to develop your spirituality and help form a relationship with God that will sustain you long after you complete the program.
