PR Council

With the slogan Rebuild Life, Renew Fraternity and Sow the Future (Reconstruir la vida, renovar la fraternidad y sembrar el futuro), our Capuchin brothers in Puerto Rico met from February 2-6, 2026, at Centro Capuchino in Trujillo Alto, PR, to celebrate the Custody's Twentieth Ordinary Chapter. During days of prayer, reflection, and discernment, the brothers assessed the life of the Custody, their ministries, and projections for the future, culminating in the election of the new government that will direct, encourage and animate the brotherhood for the next three years.

José Ángel Torres Rivera
, was elected to serve as Custodian (Custos), a position José Ángel held before he was chosen as Vicar General of the Order in 2018. José Fernando Irizarry Santana was chosen as First Councilor with Roberto Colón Ortiz serving as Second Councilor. The article in the San Juan Catholic press noted that the "Chapter was marked by the celebration of the Eucharist, the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, the celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours, and moments of fraternal sharing -- all the while remembering that consecrated life isheld in Communion, Mission, and Thanksgiving. We commend the new leaders to our prayer, so that, guided by the Holy Spirit, they continue to faithfully transmit the Capuchin charism in Puerto Rico.
